AN INSPIRATIONAL Ardrossan teenager has received 'one big thank you' courtesy of a hit BBC TV show.

Georgie Hyslop featured on The One Show on Thursday, September 19, where she was the main focus of one segment of the episode.

The 16-year-old was given her thanks after being nominated to feature by family friend Elaine Thomson.

Ardrossan Academy pupil Georgie Hyslop had her world turned upside down in December last year, aged just 15.

At the time, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Ewing sarcoma, which occurs in bones or in the soft tissue around them.

From day one, Georgie was not only determined in her own battle, but on a mission to help others.

All through her fight, the incredible teenager has looked to help others in a position similar to her on by raising funds to donate to the Schiehallion Ward at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow - where she was treated - the Teenage Cancer Trust and Marion's House.

Through various events and efforts, the teen has raised over £27,000.

And she got some fantastic news in July, that she was now in remission and has moved to having scans every three months to ensure this is still the case moving forward.

Despite this, she is continuing in her fundraising efforts to ensure she continues to help others in their time of need.

It was this incredible attitude that The One Show looked to thank Georgie for.

The Ardrossan teen, a self proclaimed Dr Who super fan, was sent on a trip to London - where as far as she was aware her and her family would be going for a 'sonic scene tour'.

Unbeknownst to her, there were further treats in store when she got to the Royal Albert Hall where the BBC are currently filming a special Dr Who themed edition of 'The Proms'.

The tour was interrupted by a member of The One Show team, who was posing as a Proms producer.

They then invited Georgie inside where she got to enjoy a private performance of the show in rehearsals.

The teen and her family then headed outside for some pictures at the Tardis outside the Royal Albert Hall where a very special guest was waiting to surprise her.

As she posed for snaps, Georgie, mum Lynn, dad Paul and big sister Megan were 'photobombed' by a certain Catherine Tate - Dr Who's 35th companion and Georgie's favourite actress.

Catherine told Georgie: “I have heard all about you and all the amazing work you do, and I am here on behalf of The One Show to give you a one big thank you.”

The actress then posed for a number of pictures, and showed the Ardrossan teen a number of video messages which had been prepared for her surprise appearance on the show.

The Ardrossan Academy pupil was also given tickets to see The Proms show the following day.

Speaking after the show aired, mum Lynn said: "We’ve watched and watched it again.

"Thank you so much to the BBC who really gave Georgie the credit she was due. To Elaine Thomson what an experience you have gave our girl - it started with you nominating her.

"That day was my birthday, a day I'll never forget! Georgie’s smile was priceless and you’ve no idea how hard it has been keeping this a secret - I’m not great with secrets.

"We are so proud of you Georgie, we’re amazed by you."
