ALL sailings to Arran from Ardrossan and Troon have been cancelled today (Thursday, September 26) due to weather conditions.

CalMac confirmed that wind speed and sea swell conditions at Brodick have forced them to call a halt to both services to the island.

The service from Lochranza to Claonaig in Argyll continues to operate but the ferry company warned those crossings were subject to disruption or cancellation as well.

On Wednesday, CalMac announced the 39-year-old Hebridean Isles would be diverted from the Islay route to the Clyde after both Ardrossan's ferries went out of service.

Due to today's stormy conditions at the North Ayrshire port, the vessel was transferred to Troon instead.

Then it was revealed that the MV Alfred, which has been operating from Troon following the closure of Ardrossan's Irish Berth, would also be pulled out of service, due to an ongoing issue with the prop shaft, leading to cancellations of this afternoon's sailings.

But with the weather deteriorating, CalMac confirmed all sailings from mainland Ayrshire to Brodick had to be axed.

Earlier this week the MV Caledonian Isles returned to the Ardrossan after being out of action for nine months - only to fall foul of a gearbox problem before even entering service.

And the MV Isle of Arran - operating on the route as its replacement - went in for its annual overhaul on Tuesday.

On Friday, the MV Hebridean Isles will depart from Troon at 6.40am. A shuttle bus will take passengers from Ardrossan to Troon at 5.40am.

The ferry will then revert to the Ardrossan-Brodick timetable from the 8.20am departing Brodick - weather permitting.
