ARRAN’s only bank will be replacing its ATM machine in order to improve accessibility for customers.
The Royal Bank of Scotland on Invercloy Road will revamp the machine as part of a plan to replace existing ATMs across Scotland with new models that will have improved functionality.
This branch became the only bank left on the island after the Bank of Scotland closed its Brodick location on January 31, 2024.
When developing the plan, the objective was to improve access heights to the facility for users.
The existing ATM will be disconnected, the face plate removed, and the machine slid backwards and out via the existing ATM room door into the branch and then off site.
No other works are planned for the building other than replacing the ATM and taking care of minor adjustments to the existing ATM aperture.
The bank is a C-listed building that was built out of red ashlar sandstone in the early 20th century.
During the process, all floors, walls, doors and architraves in the vicinity of the works are required to be fully protected.
Tate Stevenson Architects on behalf of Royal Bank of Scotland stated that the works are minor and will not affect the listed building.
A spokesperson said: “The works are of a minor nature and will have minimal impact on the ATM and purple surround as currently exists.
"With the prescribed controls in place the replacement of the new ATM and surround should not adversely harm the character of the building.”
