FERRY operators CalMac have confirmed that the MV Caledonian Isles will remain out of action on the Arran route for at least another 10 days.

The vessel returned to the Clyde on Monday, September 23, after being out of action for a full nine months while extensive repairs were carried out.

But the Caledonian Isles never quite made it into service. An issue with the gearbox was identified and the ferry headed off for more repairs.

In an update, CalMac revealed: "MV Caledonian Isles is further delayed in returning to service due to an issue with the vessel’s port gearbox.

"Spare parts are due to arrive early this week ahead of repairs and alignment works, which are expected to take place over the next 10 days. We will provide an update on the progress of the repairs early next week."

With the second Ardrossan to Brodick ferry, MV Isle of Arran, having to go in for its annual service last week, CalMac swiftly brought in the ageing MV Hebridean Isles to serve the Ardrossan to Brodick route.

However, the Hebridean Isles has been operating out of Troon Harbour because of wind conditions at Ardrossan. A bus service has been taking foot passengers between Ardrossan and Troon.

The following timetable for MV Hebridean Isles will operate from Troon today, Wednesday October 2: Depart Troon – 6.40am, 10.20am, 3pm. Depart Brodick - 8.30am, 1pm and 4.50pm.

The bus timetable is as follows: Depart Ardrossan – 5.40am, 9.20am, 2pm. Depart Troon – 10.10am, 2.40pm, 6.30pm.

Buses will be at Troon port for the arrival of MV Hebridean Isles and will depart around 20 minutes later. Buses depart Ardrossan one hour before sailing time from Troon.
