NORTH Ayrshire Council has provided an update on Auchenharvie Leisure Centre's swimming pool after it confirmed that the opening of the new Ardrossan Campus would be delayed.

The new school complex is set to include two new swimming pools, meaning the facility at Auchenharvie would be subject to closure.

Other facilities currently available at the centre - a gym and ice rink - are not currently set to be affected by the new campus opening.

With the initial opening date of the campus in June 2026, it was initially proposed that this would be when the pool at Auchenharvie closes.

However, North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that the delay in campus works will also see the pool closure date pushed back.

A spokesperson said: “The pool at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre is still anticipated to remain open until the completion of the education and community campus.”

The council had previously released an online questionnaire so locals were able to voice their opinion with regards to how the vacant space will be used once the pool closes.

Centre operators KA Leisure shared an online forum which asked a number of questions with regards to proposed uses for the space.

Included amongst the suggested options were increased fitness/leisure classes, an indoor play area, an event/community space, a wellness space, mental health and wellbeing facilities and a cafe space.

Those filling out the survey were also able to suggest other idea with regards to a future use for the former swimming pool area.

The questionnaire is no longer active with responses not being taken at this time.

The new Ardrossan Campus is projected to cost £80.3million, and will incorporate the current Winton Primary School and early years classes as well as Ardrossan Academy.

Further leisure facilities at the school will include four court games hall, gymnasium, dance studio and fitness suite.

Outside there will be two full size football pitches, one grass and one with artificial turf, and a multi-use games area (MUGA). The synthetic pitch will be capable of being used for both rugby and football.

It was previously planned that the campus would open in August 2026, though just one year after remediation and preparation work on the former Shell oil refinery site commenced, the project completion was pushed back until the second half of 2027.
