A WOMAN has been charged following an alleged serious assault near Saltcoats Harbour.
Melissa Wilson faced a pair of charges when she appeared for a private petition hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, October 7.
Ms Wilson, 40 (DOB - 30/08/1984), is accused of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.
A further charge claims that the Saltcoats woman also made attempts to defeat the ends of justice.
She made no plea and was committed for further examination.
She will now return to the court at a later date to face the charges again, and has been released on bail in the meantime.
It comes after police were called out to the Harbour Point area of the town in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Eyewitnesses also reported a cordon being set up in the area in the hours which followed the alleged incident.
Officers later confirmed that they had received reports of an alleged serious assault on a 37-year-old male - with no further update on their condition provided.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 40-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault on a 37-year-old man in the Harbour Point area of Saltcoats on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
"She was due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, October 7, 2024. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
