THE popular Saltcoats Christmas Carnival is set to return for this festive period.

Locals were left gutted last year when the event was axed after the previous organising committee decided to step down due to constraints caused by other commitments.

The town nearly went without a festive celebration for youngsters - before local legend David Lennox swooped to save the day at the 11th hour with a special event in the Masonic Hall.

This year, a new committee has been put in place, and the Christmas Carnival is set to return in all its glory on Sunday, November 24.

Those behind the return are now asking for the community to get behind them and are looking for anyone able to lend a hand.

Ahead of the big return, a hunt is now under way to find volunteers who can assist with event proceedings.

The committee estimate that around 40 volunteers will be required to step up and complete various tasks.

Support needed includes: volunteers for activity stations in the town hall and Metro nightclub; a helper for two grottos at the Kirkgate church; support for the ASN grotto at the Metro; help with ticket sales; marshals; and security.

A spokesperson said: "If you have any experience and can help out please reach out to us.

"Without the volunteers the carnival can’t go ahead. Let’s show what this fab town is made of!"
