POLICE say they are investigating an incident of 'suspicious behaviour' which took place around Stevenston beach earlier this week.
It was reported to officers that a man was "acting suspiciously" in the area shortly before 7pm on Monday, October 7.
While no one was traced when police attended, they say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
It follows reports on social media of a person being chased during a walk along the popular route between Saltcoats shore front and Stevenston beach.
A post made online alleged that a male "came screaming from the sand dunes" before running after the person.
They say the man only retreated once they were back within sight of other people.
The post said: "Police have advised to not walk there alone and say they’ll be patrolling more.
"It could be nothing but regardless it’s a scary situation, even more so alone."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.45pm on Monday, October 7, 2024, we were called to a report of a man acting suspiciously in the area of Stevenston beach.
“Officers attended however there was no trace of anyone in the area. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
