THE Scottish Maritime Museum will host a Wellbeing Workshop as part of the new Secret of Success exhibition created by members of the North Ayrshire Ukrainian community.
It will take place at the museum on Irvine Harbourside between 4pm and 6pm on Tuesday, October 29.
During the workshop, participants will enjoy mindfulness activities, a healing drum circle, guided meditation and a sound bath all within the uplifting setting of the museum’s glass roofed Linthouse building.
The wellbeing activities, which will also include exploring herbs, oils and herbal teas that would have been used at sea, are all linked to the adventure story told as part of the exhibition.
The two-hour Wellbeing Workshop will be run by the Rock & Rose Project CIC of Kilwinning, which provides holistic mental health and wellbeing services.
Jennifer Pless, community engagement and development officer at the museum, said: "We’re excited to announce our first Wellbeing Workshop which will take place at the museum as part of the new Secret of Success exhibition.
“We have had a fantastic response to the exhibition since we opened last week with a celebration event which attracted 120 guests.
“The Wellbeing Workshop, which will be held in our warm education suite, ties into the themes of the exhibition which everyone can also view before or after the activities.”
The Secret of Success exhibition, which has been developed with the support of the Museum team and artist Ellie Swanston, takes inspiration from Jules Verne, his visits to Scotland and his tales of journeys across the world taken by sea.
Through the medium of lino printing and storytelling, the Ukrainian contributors, who ranged from eight to retirement age, explore the notion of ‘adventure’ and their own journey across the world between Glasgow and Odesa in Ukraine.
Together, they reflect on the characters they encountered along the way, their search for understanding within multicultural communities and their current life in Irvine.
The exhibition is accompanied by an interpretative story which is written by one of the participants and ties all the individual artworks together.
Tickets for the Wellbeing Workshop are priced £10 per person and advanced booking is essential.
The workshop is suitable for those aged 12 years and over.
‘The Secret of Success’ exhibition runs until Thursday, October 31. Entry to the exhibition is included in museum admission and up to three children go free with each adult/concession ticket.
Wellbeing Workshop Tickets can be booked at www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org, by emailing communities@scotmaritime.co.uk or by phoning the museum on 01294 278283.
