And there was plenty going on with a Scout group centenary, a big award for a teacher and even a new world champion...

(Image: Newsquest) This Beith teenager was crowned 2009 Rubik’s Cube World Champion after solving the puzzle in just over 10 seconds. Breandan Vallance won the international Speedcubing competition after defeating more than 400 rivals in Germany.

(Image: Newsquest) A ladies night was held in the Taits Tavern in Stevenston in October 2009 to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care Scotland. The girls had a theme of pink Hallowe’en and there were some superb outfits on show.

(Image: Newsquest) Stanley Primary’s Lesley Richardson was named Best Teacher at the West Sound Radio Community Awards in 2009. Mrs Richardson, who taught Primary 1/2 at the Ardrossan School, was delighted to pick up the accolade.

(Image: Newsquest) Saltcoats performer Emily Paterson, 29, donated the proceeds from her third CD release to Adelaide College in the town. The college had been founded by her father.

(Image: Newsquest) John Simpson, VP Robert Clark, Lady President Sadie Mcadzean, President Kerr Bryson, Lorna Sibbald were the closing day winners on the Beith Bowling Club green in 2009.

(Image: Newsquest) Ardrossan Scout Troop and their members past and present had a great time at their Centenary Dinner at the Lauriston Hotel in October 2004. The event was preceded by a civic reception where District Commissioner James Cummings presented Sean Hendry and Cameron Stewart with their Chief Scout’s Silver Awards and veteran Bob McSherry received a Silver Wolf for services to Scouting.
