The other, a 53-year-old male, has now been released pending further enquiries - with the investigation still ongoing.

The pair were the second and third people to be apprehended following the death of 44-year-old John Taylor in Kilwinning.

A man, aged 26, was arrested on Tuesday, October 22, before being charged and appearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court the following day.

Kiey O’Connor made no plea to charges of murder and of attempting to defeat the ends of justice when he appeared in private at the courthouse.

Following his appearance he was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. He is set to return to court in the coming days.

Mr Taylor was found with serious injuries outside of his home on Pollock Crescent around 1.55pm on Friday, October 18. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The day following his death, following a post mortem examination, police confirmed that they were investigating murder - stating they believed the incident to be a "targeted attack".

Police Scotland are still asking those who may have information on the incident to come forward.

A force spokesperson said: "Detectives have set up a website that gives members of the public access to a form to send information directly to the Major Investigation Team, which can be submitted anonymously."

The portal can be accessed at: https://orlo.uk/VzdrG.

They added: "Alternatively, anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1878 of October 18, 2024."
