THE Rotary Club of Hunterston have raised a "substantial amount" of money after hosting their 'community quiz'.

The event took place on Friday, October 25, and was held in the Lauriston Hotel in Ardrossan.

A total of 15 teams gathered for the evening, with each competing for the much sought after quiz trophy.

The event also featured a well supported prize raffle, with all funds raised throughout supporting the rotary club's community grant scheme.

The grant award scheme allows the club to support clubs, organisations and individuals within the local community with financial support to aid their projects.

The quiz itself saw each teams battle it out over six rounds of hard question from Jim Jackson.

It was an incredibly tight battle for the top prize, with two teams tied on 52 points at the end of the final round - with the top four teams separated by only four points.

A tie-breaker was need to crown the champion, with local quizzers Matt's Muppets emerging victorious - narrowly defeating the Kilmarnock Rotary club team 'Killie Krankies'.

Third place in the event were the Prestwick Pioneers, from the town's rotary club, who finished just on point ahead of the Greenock Rotary.

Following the event, Hunterston Rotary president Norman Whyte thanked all those who took part and contributed towards the raffle - which led to a substantial amount being raised for the community grant scheme.

He added: "Many thanks to the Lauriston Hotel and staff for a most enjoyable buffet which contributed to a fun night enjoyed by all."

More information on the grant scheme is available via the Rotary Club of Hunterston website.
