TWO youths, aged 12, have been arrested and charged in connection with a bus fire in Stevenston.
A Stagecoach service 18 vehicle was allegedly set alight before stopping in the Hayocks Road area of the town on Thursday, November 7.
Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 4.30pm with no reported injuries as a result of the blaze.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also sent two appliances to the scene before the fire was extinguished on the double-decker bus.
Two youths, a boy and girl, have now been arrested and charged in relation to the incident with a report to be submitted to the relevant authority.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.35pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024, officers received a report of a bus on fire on Hayocks Road, Stevenston.
"There were no reports of any injuries and due to quick response of emergency services, disruption to local community was minimised.
"Following enquiry, a 12-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were identified and have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. A report will be submitted to the relevant authority."
Bus operators Stagecoach had previously confirmed the incident took place on their service 18, describing the acts as "vandalism".
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our service 18 bus in the Hayocks area of Stevenson was vandalised and set on fire yesterday, November 7.
"Fortunately, no passengers or Stagecoach staff were injured. Police and fire services attended the scene and we are continuing to work with the emergency services regarding this incident.”
