Kilwinning priest Father Matt McManus was to move to Ardrossan in a bid to help address the crisis caused by a shortage of young priests across Ayrshire in 2004. Also affected by the shake-up was Father McGhee at St Brendan’s in Saltcoats, who was being relocated to Stranraer.
North Ayrshire paid tribute to fallen heroes on Remembrance Day 2004, with services taking place across the area, including this one in Dalry.
Youngsters at Pennyburn Community Nursery were given a taste of culture when performers from the Scottish Ballet dropped by to put on a performance in November 2004.
Saltcoats teenager Chris Main played a starring role as Scotland enjoyed double success at an international table tennis match at Irvine’s Magnum Leisure Centre in November 2004. Chris, 16, won two of his three matches in the 14-6 victory against Wales. The Scots also defeated Belgium by 12 matches to eight.
Hundreds of concerned parents at St Peter’s Primary in Ardrossan were fighting for new road safety measures outside the busy school in 2004, with more than 500 signing a petition to set up a full School Zone outside the school.
Finally, redundant staff at DSM Nutritional products in Dalry – formerly Roche Pharmaceuticals – have spoken of their shock and anger at the decision to shed 200 jobs just before Christmas 2004.
