A SALTCOATS nightclub has confirmed it will not be opening this weekend.

The Metro team have taken the difficult decision to close as a result of vandalism which took place at an event hosted at the venue earlier this month.

The Hamilton Street venue shared images of the damage caused on social media this week, stating simply that "this is why we can't have nice things".

The images showed parts of the club's toilet facilities in a state of disrepair with hand driers seemingly torn from the walls and the handles being stolen from sink taps.

A number of locals shared their anger after being made aware of the vandalism, describing the acts as "disgusting".

Many took particular exception given the work put into re-opening the venue, as well as the fact the space is used not only as a nightclub but a vital community resource.

One person said: "This is disgusting after the effort and hard work these guys done to get the Metro back looking better.

"It's not just a nightclub, disabled children and young adults use this facility as well as a long list of other events that go back into this community. Horrible."

While another added: "This is so sad especially with everything the guys do! It’s not just a nightclub, they host other events and help with disabled kids in the community too.

"Shocking behaviour from adults. Should be ashamed of themselves."

The Metro has since confirmed that it will not be open this weekend (November 15-16) as a result of the damage caused.

The next event to be hosted at the nightclub will now be the 'Supremo' event - featuring Kelly Llorenna and Micky Modelle - on Saturday, November 23.
