THE Three Towns Shed Group showed off their current projects at an open doors day last week.

The event was part of a national programme co-ordinated by the Scottish Men's Sheds Association to mark International Men’s Day.

The public were invited to drop by the group's base in Hill Street, Ardrossan and find out more about the work the group does in the community.

Of course, the base isn't just the home of the men's group - they now have a She Shed too.

(Image: Newsquest) The Shed was set up to give local men of 18 years and over the opportunity to come together around activities that you can find in a garden shed and in ways which benefit their health and mental wellbeing.

Activities include woodworking projects such as building garden furniture and planters.

Chair Scott Jamieson said: "Our new premises is about twice the size of our last place. We have around 50 members and there are 20 regulars here most of the time. We are getting an extra few folk each month.

"We were formed in September 2018 but it's just a few months since we moved to our new home in Hill Street.

(Image: Newsquest) "There's still a lot of work to do and we have been discussing getting some additional space for an expansion.

"We've been very fortunate with donations of things like tables and desks, as well as tools. We can do them up and sell them on.

"We've done really well over the last couple of years. We have more community focus now.

"We've helped make memorial benches for local schools, where some much loved staff members have passed away.

"They wanted something for the kids to remember them by, such as memorial gardens.

"The group welcomes anyone over 18, male or female. who may be suffering social isolation."
