A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for wind across Ayrshire.

The warning area covers North and South Ayrshire and is expected to last from 3pm on Thursday, December 5, until 6am on Friday, December 6.

Some disruption will be possible from strong and gusty winds, which will impact the affected areas.

Locals should expect:

  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

A Met office spokesperson said: "Westerly or northwesterly winds will increase across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, north Wales, northern England, the north Midlands and East Anglia during Thursday afternoon and evening.

"Inland gusts of 40-50mph are possible, with perhaps 60-70mph along exposed coasts, especially through the North Channel and Irish Sea, causing some travel disruption.

"Strong gusts will also be associated with heavy showers which move through at times."
