FORM team Ardrossan Winton Rovers started 2020 with one of their best wins of the season.
And upbeat boss Stevie Wilson is urging them to keep it going after they hammered a Maryhill side, managed by former Irvine Meadow boss Ross Wilson, 6-2.
Peter Haggerty netted a double and Jamie Henderson, Derek Kennedy, Ryan McKie and Andy Hunter were on target. They have now lost just twice in their last 15 games and are just three points behind Shettleston and Port Glasgow, joint leaders on 37 points.
Wilson said: “This has to be our most battling performance of the season and it was great to score six goals on the road. The attitude was excellent from the players. We had the players in on Monday and wondered about Friday but I trusted the players to do their own workouts and they did. It was good to see Andy Hunter scoring as he’s just back after being out with a dislocated shoulder.
“We are just three points off the top. We can’t get carried away but will see how we are placed after the next two or three games.”
Winton on Saturday enjoy a break from league business on Saturday as they host Troon in the Ardagh Group West of Scotland Cup.
Wilson said: “You could say it’s a bit of a free hit for us. The league is the top priority but it’s good to have the opportunity to test ourselves against Troon. I know their manager Jim Kirkwood and they have a decent team but you never know in cup competitions.”
