YOUTH rugby players from Ardrossan Academicals RFC enjoyed a fruitful trip up the coast last weekend.
Teams from various primary school age groups travelled to Inverclyde to take part in a tournament held at Greenock Wanderers Rugby Club.
There was a lot of talent on show from a number of young sides taking part in the event - but still the Accies managed to produce two triumphant sides, and three of the players of the tournament.
One of the oldest teams, the primary six side, had a great day where plenty of top qualirt rugby was played in a round robin against Greenock, Cartha, Bishopton and Garnock.
Unfortunately for the Accies, Birkmyre were a step above the rest and took the win though few of the new players got their first tries so a day to remember.
It was especially memorable for young star Luca - who won player of the tournament for the second year in a row.
The primary five tournament also saw a player in blue, black and white claim player of the tournament - as Daniel McLeod put in some stellar performances.
There was plenty to celebreate for the primary four team, who had five very competitive games - and put in great team performances in each.
They drew praise from all the opponent coaches with their ability and willingness to pass for the benefit of team.
The team picked up tight wins against Birkmyre, Greenock Reds and Yellows and Garnock - meaning that despite a narrow loss to Bishopton, they won the tournament for a second year in a row.
Harris MacDougall won the most man-of-the-match prizes in the competition (nominated by opposing team coaches) and collected the player of the tournament award - also for a second consecutive year.
And there was one final tournament win to celebrate, as one of the club's youngest teams, the primary twos, emerged victorious from their tournament section.
It was a great day all round - and its safe to say there were plenty of happy faces in Accies tops!
