AN ITALIAN sports journalist, renowned as a transfer 'guru' amongst the football community, has provided an update on the future of Ardrossan star Billy Gilmour.
Over the past month, there has been widespread speculation linking the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder with Italian side Napoli.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has said that the Serie A club are "confident" they will secure the Scotland international's signature.
Mr Romano posted an update on the transfer to his 20 million followers on social media platform X - formerly Twitter - on Wednesday, August 7.
He said that negotiations between the two clubs are now underway - with Brighton looking to secure a fee of around €20m for the midfielder.

Gilmour, a former Rangers youth academy prospect, moved to Brighton from Chelsea back in September 2022 - for a reported fee of around £8m.
He has made just under 50 appearances for the English Premier League club to date.
If Gilmour were to sign for Napoli, he would link up with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte - who managed the club for one season while he was within the youth ranks in London.
