Saltcoats Victoria boss Stevie Wilson has hailed his players' character after they came back from two goals down at half time to play out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Rossvale.

David Sawyers was the man of the moment for Vics, with a second half hat-trick to turn the game on its head, but his side could not hang on and had to settle for a point.

Wilson admits he was disappointed with his side's start to the game, where they went in at the break two goals down.

He said: "We didn't start as well as we'd have wanted and it took us a while to get going in the game.

"There was not much between the teams but we conceded two really sloppy goals which is disappointing.

"The first one we have a chance to clear it, but for the second we were a bit lazy, and a real good talk was required at half time."

Wilson has praised his players for showing "hunger" to get back into the game, despite Rossvale's late equaliser.

He said: "The second half was mostly one way traffic, and we get a great goal back from the edge of the box.

"We brought Sawyers to the left side of the park and he won two penalties, which he stood up and knocked away.

"In the later stages of the game we still looked good and I hoped we would hold on, but we gave away a sloppy free kick and should have defended it better.

"If you told me at half time we'd get a draw I would have taken it. We showed real hunger, guts and character."

Vics head to BSC Glasgow on Wednesday, and despite the city side sitting bottom of the league, Wilson is warning against complacency.

He added: "We are still looking to add a few boys over the coming weeks, but we feel we're on the right road.

"We go up to BSC confident, they've had quite a tough start and a lot of people say we should go beat them.

"However, it's all down to us and our attitude has to be right, it won't be an easy game and three points is never guaranteed."
