DALRY Thistle are showing "promotion form" according to boss Chris Wilson - who is still demanding more from his players.
The Merksworth Park side picked up their first home victory of the season on Saturday as they defeated Girvan 5-3.
Despite falling behind to an early penalty, and being pegged back before half time after taking a 2-1 lead, Thistle made it four games unbeaten thanks to goals from Cameron Fairns, Jamie Gray and a Fraser Cowan hat-trick.
“The scoreline maybe doesn’t do it justice," Wilson commented. "I thought that we were always comfortable in the game, even when we went behind in two minutes.
“For the next 30 minutes we were excellent, we scored two really good goals and we knocked the ball about really well. We looked, as we have been looking the last four games, a really good side.
“We lost a goal right on the stroke of half time, from a set piece, which is poor.
“We got them in at half time and they were a wee bit flat, I think they know they played well but they lost two silly goals.
“I just said to them they have to trust themselves and they did.”
The Dalry boss says he is "delighted" with the form of his young side, who have bounced back from two losses to open their campaign.
Wilson says he is hungry for more - as Thistle moved within a point of the West of Scotland Football League Third Division summit.
Wilson also argued it could have been more, if not for a controversial 2-2 draw with Lugar Boswell Thistle in midweek.
He continued: “We’re delighted, it’s really pleasing, considering the start we had, we had to get points quickly and we have.”
“We said on Saturday that if we won that would be 10 out of the last 12 points available – that is promotion form. We want to try and be better than that.
“The two points we dropped against Lugar in midweek are from a 94th minute penalty, which was a baffling decision.
“Had that not been given, we’re sitting with 12 out of 12 which is potentially league winning form – that’s where we want to be.
“It’s a set back we’ve got to deal with and the boys responded excellently by scoring five goals.
As the Garnock Valley manager looks to improve further, he has eyed one area in particular as the means for doing so.
Wilson added: “My concerns is that our goals against column is still a bit too high, and we need to work on that – albeit it’s three penalties in the last two games, all of which I think are very harsh.
“It still needs to be better and that’s where the focus is going to be. We’ve proved that we can score goals, we just need to try tighten up at the other end and we’ll be on the right track.”
