TWO top North Ayrshire football stars were involved in the drama of transfer deadline day.
Ardrossan boy Billy Gilmour and Dalry teen Ben Doak were both on the move on the final day of the summer transfer window.
For 23-year-old Gilmour, it was a permanent switch to Napoli, where he will be playing his football away from the British Isles for the first time.
The move from Brighton had been mooted for much of the transfer window, though looked in jeopardy following an injury to Matt O'Riley - which would have left Gilmour's former side short of midfield options.
But the move eventually went ahead and now he will link up with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who was in charge at the club when Gilmour first joined the youth ranks from Rangers.
The 2022/23 Serie A champions paid a reported €14 million for the Scottish International, who will be linking up with a fellow national team player in Naples.
Also making a switch to Gli Azzurri on deadline day was former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
The pair will hope to enjoy similar success to that of another fellow Scot who has been plying their trade in Italy's top league - former Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson who captained Bologna to Champions League qualification last season.
While for Ben Doak, it was a loan move rather than a permanent transfer made on August 30.
The former Celtic starlet has joined English Championship club Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old has made a handful of first team appearances for parent club Liverpool, and will be hoping to push himself back into the thoughts of first-team manager Arne Slot with a strong spell in Teeside.
A strong spell in England's second tier could also help further Doak's international career after being called up to Steve Clarke's most recent Scotland squad.
The Dalry teen had previously been named in the national team squad for Euro 2024, though was later forced to withdraw due to injury.
Gilmour will hope to make his Napoli debut on Sunday, September 15, against Cagliari - after this month's international break.
Doak will be aiming to make his first appearance at Middlesbrough on Saturday, September 14, in a home fixture versus Preston North End.
