EGLINTON FC got back to winning ways at the weekend with an emphatic 5-0 win away to BSC Glasgow.
The Kilwinning-based outfit started the West of Scotland Football League Fourth Division season in hot form - winning their opening two fixtures.
Though their third match ended in a 3-0 loss away to Kello Rovers, with the following two weeks ending in a draw and then defeat - against St Peter's and Rossvale respectively.
However, it was no surprise to co-boss William Shearer that his side got another three points on the board this weekend.
Shearer says that while results had been lacking since the Kello loss, performances certainly hadn't been.
He commented: “Us and the boys have been frustrated with results the last couple of games but we know we played well. It’s football, sometimes it just goes against you.
“After the game at Rossvale, we spoke about it at training during the week, we knew we done the right stuff.
“We created lots of chances, if your confidence is high they are going in but because of the way we had been playing confidence wasn’t high.
“I knew, once it came up to playing BSC, if we played our game we would hit our stride.”
And that is exactly what Eglinton did, with goals from Kris Chisholm, Finlay Grier, Stuart Hannah, Marc Walker and Stuart Anderson contributing to the five star performance.
“I’m quite chuffed with it," Shearer added. "I’d have taken any win but it was good that it was emphatic – and especially getting five different names on the scoresheet.
“BSC is a difficult place to go, it was really warm and you’re on a bobbly grass park.
“We had a scrappy first 15 minutes then I felt as if we really took control."
And the co-manager, who leads the team alongside Dougie Taylor, feels there is more still to come as the season develops.
Shearer continued: “The boys have got a great attitude, there is a real togetherness in that dressing room, it was never in doubt.
“You see a lot of stuff getting said about us, that we should be doing better, but we’ve got nine new players and a new formation.
“It’s going to take a bit of time, the boys understand that, we had a good pre-season and start to the season – and then Kello beat us quite convincingly.
“That’s been a bit of a wake up call to some of the boys. I feel from that game we’ve played quite well.
“It’s just about learning from that process and getting better.”
