ARDEER Thistle are back amongst the promotion places after a five-star showing at the weekend.

Manager Sean Kenney described his side's performance as "perfect" as Thistle picked up a 5-1 win away to Glenvale - with the three points gained seeing the Stevenston side move into second place in the West of Scotland Football League Third Division.

The victory was built upon an outstanding first half showing with goals from Stewart Morgan, Marc Wardrope and a David Henry double giving the visitors a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.

Greg Kean added a fifth before the hour mark with only a late consolation goal from the home side taking a slight shine off an otherwise faultless afternoon.

“I’m delighted," boss Kenney told the club's media team after the match. "I’m really happy with the boys. It was a perfect game plan.

“Everything we wanted to do, and speak about doing and the type of goals we scored – everything we planned went perfect.

“That’s all down to the boys, we all put a lot of work in, they’ve been grafting.

“We’ve not played in the league in five weeks so we were delighted to get back to winning ways.”

With the game being the only match played in the Third Division on Saturday, the result catapulted Kenney's side into second place in the standings.

While teams behind Thistle have games in hand, the boss is keen for the weekend's performance to be a marker for the remainder of the season.

And he urged his players to keep their levels to that standard in the coming weeks.

“The base of a good performance is hard work, that’s something we’ve got to do in every game,” Kenney added.

Next up for Thistle is Scottish Junior Cup action, as they travel to face Vale of Leven in the competition's third round - with kick off at 2.30pm on Saturday, October 19.
