UNBEATEN runs, tight matches and heavy defeats - this weekend's rugby union action taking place across Ayrshire had it all.

Despite the west coast being battered by the weather this weekend, it did not put a stop to sides from across the region.

On Saturday, October 19, Ayr RFC saw their perfect start to the season continue - in emphatic fashion once again.

It was a eighth straight bonus point win for the Millbrae side who powered to a 45-9 win to maintain their lead in the top club rugby league - the National Premiership.

Elsewhere in the division, it was a challenging weekend for struggling Marr RFC.

Third bottom played third top as the Troon side travelled to face Watsonian RFC - with the home team winning the tie by a resounding 73-0 scoreline.

Further down the national leagues, Ardrossan Accies were the only other Ayrshire side in action - with Garnock RFC having a free weekend.

In a tough away fixture, Andrew Duncan's side continued their perfect start to life in National Division Four - by the narrowest of margins.

A 31-27 victory away to Dunfermline was enough to maintain their 100 per cent winning record - with seven wins from seven.

Though something will have to give next week - as they face the only other side with a perfect record, Strathmore, at the Memorial Field next weekend.

Into the regional leagues and Kilmarnock RFC have also kept their perfect run going in West Region Division One.

They made it eight bonus point wins from eight on Saturday with a narrow 40-28 win away at Strathaven RFC.

While Cumnock RFC had an even tighter result this weekend - though were on the wrong end of the scoreline.

The East Ayrshire outfit lost 48-45 at home to Dalziel RFC, picking up two bonus points despite the defeat.

In West Division Two, Carrick RFC maintained their challenge at the top end of the table.

They bounced back from narrow defeat last weekend with an emphatic 83-7 win away at Cumbernauld RFC - remaining just seven points off top spot.

Though it was a tough weekend for Irvine RFC who were on the end of a 68-7 scoreline against Waysiders/Drumpellier RFC.

Despite the result, the North Ayrshire side are still 13 points clear of last place and the relegation zone.

In women's rugby and Ayr RFC were unable to build on last week's first win in West Division One - after their match at Greenock fell victim to the weather.

In West Division Two, Irvine RFC were handed a 28-0 loss against Uddingston RFC due to having insufficient players for the fixture.

While Marr RFC maintained their lead atop West Division Three, picking up another win at the weekend as they defeated Paisley RFC 67-15.
