EGLINTON FC co-boss Dougie Tayler hailed his side after they made a "ruthless" return to league action.
For the previous three weekends, the Kilwinning outfit have been pitted against a number of higher division opposition in various cup competitions.
Despite their best efforts, strong performances were to no avail as the club went crashing out of each competition.
However, the team were not deterred as they returned to West of Scotland Football League Fourth Division duty on Saturday, October 26.
Dougie Taylor and William Shearer's side put on a show, as they defeated visitors Campbeltown Pupils 8-0 at the Ian Cashmore Snr Memorial Park.
“After three really good performances against top opposition in the cup and really nothing to show for it, it would have been easy for the lads to feel sorry for themselves going into the game," Taylor told the club's media team.
"But to their credit we got the opposite. From the first whistle we were in total control."
The match itself saw the home side race ahead with Marc Walker notching the opening goal after just six minutes.
It took until the 39th minute for Walker to add his second, before Kris Chisholm scored in first-half stoppage time to put Eglinton well in command.
The home side then put their foot down in the second 45, with Lewis McGinn adding a fourth after the hour mark before Chisholm added to his earlier strike.
Sean Davis made it six before Stuart Hannah notched the seventh - pathing the way for Chisholm to complete his hat-trick in the final five minutes.
Taylor added: "Going in at half time 3-0 we were pleased, however not completely satisfied.
"Myself and Wullie felt we could move the ball a little quicker and speed things up in terms of throw-ins and set pieces. We told the lads exactly that and again they delivered.
"We were really ruthless in attack and in front of goal. 8-0 does wonders for anyone’s confidence so we’ll look to kick on. All credit to the players, they were fantastic.”
The win moves Eglinton into a strong position in the league standings - in seventh place but only six points off the promotion positions.
After their cup endeavours, the club also have at least one game in hand on each of the sides above them.
The Kilwinning outfit are without a game next weekend, and will return to action on Saturday, November 9, when they travel to face Newmains United - with kick off at 2pm.
